Day 2
Phuentsholing - Paro (142km - 4hrs) ▲

Early the next day, drive through scenic Bhutan to Paro and stop for photos and lunch. Drive to the hotel overlooking the beautiful Paro Valley. Later in the afternoon, visit the National Museum, housed in an old watch tower above Paro Dzong. Stay in Paro for the night.

Day 3
Paro - Taktsang Monastery - Thimphu (73km - 2hrs) ▲

Drive about 9 miles north of Paro town to the trailhead, where you start the hike (around 2 hours) to the viewpoint of Taktsang Monastery (aka Tiger's Nest), perched on a cliff 2700 feet above the valley floor. After a short tea break, the options are to sit back and read a book for a while or, if you feel energetic enough, to continue another 45 minutes up to the monastery. After the day trip up to Taktsang, drive on to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Stay in Thimpu for the night.

Day 4
Thimphu - Punakha (74km - 2hrs) ▲

In the morning, proceed for Thimphu sightseeing. The memorial chorten, the painting school, the national library, and the Bhutanese handmade paper factory are all worth seeing. After lunch, drive to Punakha across the Dochula Pass (Alt. 3050 m), where one can see the beautiful views of the Eastern Himalayan Ranges. Stop along the way at Chimi Lhakang, a 25 min hike through a peaceful village and paddy fields. Stay in Punakha for the night.

Day 5
Visit to Punakha Dzong ▲

In the morning, visit the Punakha Dzong. Proceed to hike for about 3 hours up the Pho Chhu with sweeping views of the Punakha valley. Reach the bridge at the start point in time for lunch. Raft the Pho Chhu's lower section with Class 2/3 rapids (2 hours). End the trip at Punakha Dzong. Head to Punakha Camp to stay the night.

Day 6
First day of Rafting at Punakha ▲

After an early breakfast, drive to the put-in of the upper section of the Pho Chhu. Raft the upper section of the Pho Chhu, including some Class III and some Class IV, and also an optional trip change on the Mo Chhu depending on river levels (Class 2/3). Drive back to Punakha Camp and spend the night there.

Day 7
Punakha - Thimphu (73km - 2hrs) ▲

Raft the lower (class II/III) section of the Pho Chhu and take it out past the Punakha Dzong. After lunch, drive back over the Dochula Pass to Thimphu. Stay in Thimphu for the night.

Day 8
Thimphu - Paro (50km - 1hr) ▲

Proceed for an optional day trip to Tango Monastery or spend the day at leisure in Thimphu.
